| AsiaSource is the gateway to publicly available
information on Asia issued by the Federal Reserve Bank
of San Francisco. The two main sources of Asia related
publications and analysis are the Center for Pacific Basin
Studies (CPBS), which is part of the Economic Research
Department, and the Country Analysis Unit (CAU), which
is part of the Banking Supervision & Regulation Department. |

The Asian Financial
Crisis Revisited: Challenges Over the Next Decade is a conference and seminar series assembling top bankers,
policymakers, regulators and researchers from the United
States and Asia to focus on:
- key issues raised by the Asian financial crisis
of 1997-1998, including transparency and good governance,
weaknesses in the financial sectors, and the role of
government policy
- a forward-looking view of
risks facing Asian economies and financial institutions,
including
questions raised
by China’s growth, and the impact of demographic,
environmental, and security concerns
- agendas for strengthening
Asian financial sectors, including regional integration,
new markets and products,
and the changing role of foreign investment

The conference and speaker series was inaugurated
by Janet Yellen, President and CEO of the Federal
Reserve Bank of San Francisco, who spoke at an
event we co-sponsored with the Asia Society Southern
California and the Pacific Council on International
Policy. Her topic was "Perspectives
on the Asian Financial Crisis Ten Years Later:
Assessing the Past and Looking to the Future."

the first conference in our Asian
Financial Crisis series. Featured
speakers included Tim Geithner, President of
the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Eisuke
Sakakibara, former Japanese Vice Minister of
Finance and Professor, Waseda University, Anne
Krueger, Special Advisor to the Managing Director
and former First Deputy Managing Director,
IMF, and Clay Lowery, Assistant Secretary for
International Affairs, U.S. Treasury.
