July 2015: Change Surrounds Us

July 24, 2015

Author(s): Teresa Curran, Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco

This issue of Supervisory Spotlight welcomes readers to the renamed Division of Financial Institution Supervision and Credit, or FISC! So, of course, the first topic provides background on the recent merger of Banking Supervision and Regulation and Credit Risk Management to form FISC. Then, the lens focuses outward to consider topics such as post-crisis changes in approaches to supervision and regulation, including a Community Banking Connections Q&A with Fed Chair Janet Yellen that covers her thoughts on community banking; an econometric model that evaluates the potential for positive changes in community bank net interest margins as the economy continues to expand; the evolving virtual currency landscape and what it means for banks; and how changes in the CFPB’s rules affect high-cost mortgages.
