Doug Shoemaker, is President of Mercy Housing California. Prior to joining Mercy Housing, Shoemaker was Director for the Mayor’s Office of Housing in San Francisco where he successfully oversaw the City’s major housing initiatives including the development plans for Treasure Island and Hunters Point Shipyard, two ambitious military base re-use projects. Prior to joining the Mayor’s Office of Housing in 2006, Shoemaker was the Deputy Director of the Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California. During his tenure, Shoemaker took the lead role for the Housing and Emergency Shelter Trust Fund Act of 2002 that successfully created $2.1 billion in bond funding for housing programs. Shoemaker also served as Project Manager for Mission Housing in San Francisco. In addition, he chairs the loan committee which oversees all housing-related investments for the Human Services Agency, the Redevelopment Agency and the Department of Public Health. Shoemaker is also active in national policy issues, serving as chair of a group of six large city housing directors that meet every six months.
