This is an invitation-only meeting for coordinators and financial institution partners involved with Bank On programs. Bank On programs are locally-led coalitions of government agencies, financial institutions and community organizations designed to help improve the financial futures of unbanked and under-banked individuals and families.
Bank On programs in Washington State have evolved from a single program offered in Seattle-King County to multiple programs throughout the state. More recently, many locally-formed Washington Bank On programs have been merged into a single statewide program, Bank On Washington, to obtain operational efficiencies. Still, the Bank On program’s most important work remains locally, developing bank products and services that meet the local community’s need and working with local stakeholders to ensure that the community is aware of the program’s opportunities.
There is a lot to be learned on how to reach the unbanked and underbanked and how to develop and promote the types of products and services they need. Fortunately, we are not alone in this initiative. This Bank On Summit includes experts from other states who will share their challenges and successes, and offer advice to the participants on how to increase access to mainstream financial services. This Bank On Summit promises to engage participants in a dialogue on how Washington’s programs can reach more members of our community, and make Washington State a place where banking is for everyone.
