As the economy slowly regains momentum, new financial products and services are beginning to appear in the consumer marketplace. Charged with ensuring that consumers get the information they need to make the financial decisions they are best for themselves and their families, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s examination division seeks to make regulations and guidance as clear and streamlined as possible to enable providers to follow the rules on their own. In response to requests from financial institutions at the spring 2013 Banker CRA Roundtable we will be hosting Western Region Director, Edwin Chow of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to give an update on the activities of the bureau and in particular, how examiners gather and analyze information to better protect consumers and better understand the financial markets.
Following Edwin Chow will be FDIC Compliance Examiner Karen Kopczak to discuss fair lending compliance and briefly address commercial loans, 3rd party vendor oversight and Unfair or Deceptive Acts and Practices. And rounding out the meeting will be a regulatory roundtable discussion on the topics of the day and others coming up in 2014.
