This issue of Community Investments explores income inequality from a community development perspective. The articles consider the geographic segregation of income groups at the neighborhood and regional level, and the increasing polarization of the labor market. We also address the impact of poverty stressors on LMI households, and a "Community Perspectives" thought piece examines the causes and consequences of the broad changes in income distribution. In addition, the issue includes information on the CDFI Bond Guarantee Program and adult literacy education.

Healthy Communities Healthy Communities
The Healthy Communities Initiative was designed to enrich the debate on how cross-sector and place-based approaches to revitalize low-income communities might both revitalize neighborhoods and improve health. The idea is simple: those who work on making low-income communities function better (by building high-quality affordable housing, financing small businesses, and creating community assets such as charter schools, clinics, or daycare centers) should work closely with the health sector to coordinate those community-improving efforts in a way that promotes better health outcomes over the life course.

Community Development Investment Review International Community Development
Community Development Investment Review
Volume 7, Issue 1, 2011

Low-income people in the U.S. and abroad face similar challenges: access to credit, housing, jobs, and critical services including health and education. And yet today, those who work on international economic development and community development hardly know each other. This issue of the Review is dedicated to a simple idea: innovative ideas to solve poverty should not stop at the national border. There are too many good ideas abroad that can help inform our practices domestically, and good ideas here that can be relevant to other countries.
