| Event Description |
 |
Habitat for Humanity of Washington State (HFHWA) is hosting its first statewide green conference, Mainstream Green, October 3 & 4, 2008 at the Greater Tacoma Convention & Trade Center in Tacoma, Washington. Pre conference Green Tours are available Oct. 2 at 2pm.
Habitat affiliate staff, volunteers, supporters and homeowners will be able to engage with key leaders in green building across the range of Evergreen Sustainable Development Standard mandatory and optional criteria. We are inviting Habitat affiliates from other states and our colleagues in the Washington State nonprofit homeownership community to join us.
At this conference, we will explore how we can save energy costs and reduce our impact on the environment when constructing homes. Habitat for Humanity’s Sustainable Building Initiative uses cost-effective, best-practice construction methods, raising awareness of the environmental impacts to homebuilding. As a result, Habitat homeowner families may enjoy healthier, more energy-efficient and durable housing at the lowest possible cost. These techniques also allow Habitat for Humanity to be good homebuilders and good stewards of natural resources.
