The fall 2008 Southern California CRA Roundtable series took place in October in Los Angeles and San Diego on the topic of the effectiveness and evaluation of financial education. The discussion focused on what makes for a good financial education program and a few best practice examples of effective tracking and monitoring. In each location the panel of speakers included Research Analyst Laura Choi of the SF Fed, along with nonprofit practitioners and funders. The San Diego event was held at the Junior Achievement of San Diego and Imperial Counties' Biz Town. The participating bankers were actively engaged in the same process that students undergo in running exercises on shopping and managing household budgets in the midst of wonderfully constructed make-believe stores, banks, utility companies, restaurants and law and medical offices.
