Event Description

All over Los Angeles County there are for-profit rescue scam operators advising families in foreclosure about ways to save their homes, for a fee.  Often it is a very large fee of several thousand dollars with no hope of successful resolution of the problem.  What the families do not know is that they can get the help they need for free!  Whether it is to modify their loan, obtain a refinance, or seek ways to vacate the home with a soft landing, the information does not cost anything when a nonprofit housing counselor is on their side working with them to negotiate with their loan servicer.

Another reality is that scam operators are going to church, synagogue and to the mosque where they are soliciting faith members.  This workshop is targeted at faith leaders that want to better understand what scams are and how to help their constituents stay clear of them or recover from them if they have already been scammed.

Come and listen to the State of California, the U.S. Department of HUD, the L.A. County Department of Consumer Affairs, Public Counsel, and local elected officials explain what is being done to stop this harmful practice and how families can get to a trusted nonprofit organizations for help and for free!
