This symposium will include breakout sessions on topics pertinent to
Participants are encouraged to learn how housing officials receive feedback continues to face a shortage of affordable housing, and with the upcoming buildup, careful planning is needed to ensure housing meets the needs.

While there is uncertainty on the size and timing of the military buildup, Guam still needs more affordable housing, and has an opportunity to planand the upcoming military buildup makes it even more critical. While Guam escaped the foreclosure crises sweeping other parts of the country, it faces the potential for immense housing shortages, strained infrastructure, and energy shortages. Careful planning is needed to help ensure that new housing is energy efficient, resistant to severe weather, constructed in areas that limit environmental impacts, and include the proper mix of affordable rental and ownership to meet the needs of tomorrow.

At this year’s symposium we will discuss variety of housing challenges and potential solutions, and join in a dialogue on our next steps. Some of the issues to be discussed include:

  • Status of five year affordable housing strategic plan
  • Financing options for developers and contractors
  • Resources for first-time and other homebuyers
  • Update on military buildup
  • Land availability
  • Green building techniques

Also, there will be a showcase area for developers and contractors, lenders, government agencies, and others.
