Event Description

West Oakland is a unique neighborhood situated just across the Bay from downtown San Francisco. It is currently undergoing an exciting renaissance that is bolstered by its strategic proximity to BART, downtown Oakland and Emeryville. But while West Oakland is at the tipping point of revitalization, many other socioeconomic characteristics such as high rates of unemployment, low academic achievement, poor health outcomes and limited availability of retail amenities and services, make this a neighborhood where the need for purposeful intervention is critical.

Fortunately, the community of West Oakland benefits from a strong coalition of organizations that are working both independently and collaboratively to improve the socioeconomic condition of its residents with the goal of increasing the probability of upward mobility for present and future generations. This community investment forum will be an opportunity to meet representatives from some of the organizations delivering direct programs in West Oakland and hear about the work they are doing to address the health, economic, educational and cultural needs of the residents, the impact it is having and where additional resources could be deployed to do more.
