Background Fred Furlong is Executive Director of CSIP and Vice President of Financial and Regional Research in the Economic Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco (FRBSF). Fred writes in the areas of banking, financial markets and monetary policy. His most recent work includes articles on bank regulation and financial modernization. His current research includes work with Simon Kwan, Research Advisor, FRBSF, on the distribution and sources of productivity gains in the banking sector. After earning a bachelor's degree in science at St. Mary's College of California, Fred received M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in economics at the University of California at Los Angeles.
