Banknote artists have always had a particular fondness for depicting the various aspirations of our nation. One such scene is called "America Presented to the Old World," which includes Pocahontas, the only historical woman other than Martha Washington to appear on U.S. currency.
The Educational Notes were a series that included images such as "Science Presenting Steam and Electricity to Industry and Commerce."
The American common man was also recognized by banknote engravers in "The Pioneer," "The Farmer," and "The Mechanic." These vignettes pay tribute to the energy and dedication of ordinary people who have worked to make this nation great.
