The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco has a long-standing commitment to diversity; we believe an environment that is respectful and inclusive of individuals with diverse backgrounds is necessary for our organization to excel. As such, we remain committed to fostering a workplace that welcomes all persons, regardless of their status, background or perceived differences.
We understand that diversity and inclusion are broader than race and gender, and include age, ethnicity, socio-economic background, education, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, veteran status, physical abilities, and life experiences. Therefore, our commitment continues to focus on ensuring equal employment opportunities for all employees, promoting the recruitment, retention, and development of a diverse workforce, and fostering a culture of inclusion so all employees can contribute to their fullest potential.
Building upon this commitment, the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco established the Office of Minority and Women Inclusion (OMWI), in accordance with Section 342 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010. The Act seeks to ensure fair inclusion of minorities and women in all business activities of this and other Reserve Banks. It guides the activities of the Office in the areas of workforce diversity, supplier diversity, and the diversity practices of the financial entities the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco regulates. Specifically, these activities range from staffing and recruitment, outreach to high school students, and financial literacy efforts to ensuring the participation of minority- and women-owned businesses throughout sourcing and procurement processes.
Diversity Philosophy
We are an organization that respects and values every individual for his or her unique background and experience. Our organization celebrates diversity. The OMWI builds upon our long-standing effort to maintain a diverse workforce.
Our Diversity Philosophy begins with a commitment to sustain a culture that encourages each employee to contribute at his/her fullest potential. Our philosophy is based on respect. It recognizes that while we have a great deal in common, we all bring unique perspectives and experiences to the organization. In this context, our definition of diversity includes race, gender identity and expression, age and ethnicity as well as socio-economic background, education, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, veteran status, physical abilities, and life experiences. Recognizing these additional dimensions of diversity ensures that we promote a culture that values, respects and embraces the unique experiences of all employees.
