  • Introducing Dr. Econ, FRBSF Virtual Economist
    Do questions posed to Dr. Econ tend to follow cyclical patterns in the economy? Judging by observational evidence, the answer is a resounding "Yes!" Who is Dr. Econ you ask? Launched in 1998, Dr. Econ receives about 1100 visits and 60 questions per month as the Bank's resident virtual economist on our public Web site. Receiving everything from inquiries about business cycles in bull and bear markets and the economic impact of September 11 to even a few "final hour" homework questions, the Ask Dr. Econ site is one of Public Information's outreach programs that supports the unit's mission to promote economic education.

  • Leveraging the Bank's Brainpower
    Ask any economist to list a company's most important assets, and you'll find intellectual capital (employee knowledge, skills, and ideas) at the top of the list. The Bank is fortunate to have a wealth of this valuable asset, as exemplified by employees who participated in Bank internship programs before joining the Fed, as well as recent Pacific Coast Banking School (PCBS) graduates who join an extensive list of employee graduates over the past 20 years.

    David Vandre is a veteran of more than 32 years at the Fed and currently works as a senior project analyst in the Administration unit of BS&R. One of his responsibilities is to coordinate the Conflicts of Interest program, and he is commonly known as "The Ethics Guy."
  • Results of the E-Board Survey
    Most respondents (77 percent) watch the e-boards regularly, and nearly half of respondents felt that the e-boards have increased their level of awareness of Bank activities.

    The 12L Times invited Senior Editor Aaron Steelman to write about the recent new look given to FRB Richmond's quarterly magazine Region Focus.

    I carried the Olympic flame as Torchbearer 151, day 65, a few hours before it lit the Olympic cauldron at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

    By all accounts, the employees of the Salt Lake City Branch did a magnificent job before and during the 2002 Winter Olympics held in their city in February.

  • Reaching Out... and Building Trust
    Years of life on the road prevented Ralph Hutchinson from assimilating into a local community. That ended a couple of years ago when he joined the Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance's "Stand by Me" program.
  • Madame Treasurer!
    Ms. Rosario Marin, Treasurer of the United States, visited the FRBSF on February 5 and 6.
  • Chairman Greenspan Visits Bay Area
    Chairman Alan Greenspan gave two major speeches when he visited the Bay Area for two days in January.
