Kids and Money: Putting the First Newly Designed $20 Bill into Circulation in the Bay Area

Kids and Money: Putting the first newly designed $20 bill into circulation in the Bay Area.

Why:

To mark the rollout of the new $20 bill going into circulation nationwide on September 24, we will award the first new $20 in the Bay Area to a fourth grader who drew the most creative new $20 bill in a classroom contest we conducted. The second new $20 will go to the teacher for classroom supplies.

Who:

Robert T. Parry, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, the entire fourth-grade class, with teacher Ronald Pereira, of the Glen Park Elementary School, other Fed people.

Where:

East Lobby, Interpretive Center, Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, 101 Market Street, San Francisco.

Other:

Thirty+ kids excited about money will be on hand. All their artwork will INFO be on display. The winner will be announced at the gathering--a surprise!

Following the naming of the winner, and appropriate photo opp, all kids will receive certificates, pencils and shredded money.

Fed representatives will point out the security features of the new currency, including demonstrating the security strip that glows under ultraviolet light. CD-ROMs that illustrate the new $20 and demonstrate its security features will be available for media use.
