United States Treasurer Rosario Marin
Treasurer Marin is the highest-ranking Latina in the Bush Administration and the first United States Treasurer born outside of the country. Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill swore her in on August 16, 2001.

WHAT:  

Treasurer Marin makes a special appearance in San Francisco for a series of events promoting the understanding of currency, including opening remarks to a VIP audience and a meeting with local high school students.

A rare opportunity for the public to come to the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and purchase U.S. paper currency in uncut sheets and other novelty forms. Among the items for sale by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing are the "Prosperity Note" (only 88,888 units available) and the "Fortune Note." Both of these items are uncirculated $1 notes with serial numbers beginning with "8888." These notes are encased in a decorative souvenir portfolio capturing the significance of the Year of the Horse and the numbers "8888," which represent good luck and prosperity within the Asian Community.
