2010 Economic Advisory Council

San Francisco, December 16, 2009 – The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco announced its 2010 Economic Advisory Council today, with two new members: Kim Roberts Hedgpeth, national executive director of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), and Roy A. Vallee, chairman and CEO of Avnet, Inc.  In addition, Stephen M. Brophy, president of Page Land & Cattle Company, and Mary F. Kaiser, president of California Community Reinvestment Corporation, have been reappointed chairman and vice chairman of the Council.

Since 2005, Ms. Hedgpeth has been the national executive director of AFTRA, a national labor union representing nearly 70,000 professional performers, broadcasters and recording artists in over 32 Locals throughout the country. Ms. Hedgpeth’s responsibilities over the course of her 28 year association with AFTRA have encompassed a wide range of executive responsibilities, including strategic planning and negotiation of labor contracts in the fields of news, advertising, sound recordings and entertainment programming covering traditional radio, television, cable television and emerging media and serving as the union’s principal negotiator for its national franchise agreement with talent agents and representatives.

From 1998 - 2000, she served as director of Labor and Employee Relations for Harvard University, where she was responsible for labor and employment policies for the University  and for the oversight of the University’s Disability Claims Unit. She also served as vice president of Human Resources of Safe Horizon, a support and advocacy organization for crime victims, before returning to AFTRA in 2001.

Ms. Hedgpeth holds a bachelor's degree in American government from Harvard University and a juris doctor degree from the Georgetown University Law Center. She is admitted to the California and New York State Bars.

Mr. Vallee joined Avnet as a field sales representative in 1977 and has held various positions within the company including systems business manager, sales manager, general manager, regional director and vice president. He was elected to Avnet's board of directors in 1991, and in 1992 was appointed president and chief operating officer. In 1998, Mr. Vallee was named chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Avnet, Inc.

Outside of Avnet, Mr. Vallee serves on the board of the Arizona Economic Resource Organization, a private nonprofit group seeking to boost the state's economic development, and the Greater Phoenix Leadership, a nonprofit organization composed of Phoenix area CEOs, which provides an executive forum through which corporate leadership can collaborate with the public sector and nonprofits to establish and sustain a safe, healthy and prosperous community. In addition, he previously served as a member of the Center for Corporate Innovation. Mr. Vallee is also a member of the boards of directors of two other publicly held companies: Teradyne, an automated testing company for the semiconductor industry, and Synopsys, Inc., a supplier of electronic design automation software.

Economic Advisory Council members provide information on current and pending developments in the regional and national economy in addition to providing observations and opinions to the board of directors and management of the San Francisco Fed on the present state of the economy, and the developments within their area of expertise.

Ms. Hedgpeth and Mr. Vallee will serve three-year terms ending December 2012.
