Join this meeting to learn about an exciting community and economic development opportunity in the Rockwood neighborhood.

Rockwood is a community in Gresham that faces considerable challenges and opportunities. As Gresham’s highest density neighborhood, Rockwood boasts a rich ethnic tapestry. It has struggled economically in recent years, and the City is committed to nurturing a more prosperous community. The City formed an urban renewal area in Rockwood in 2003, and there have been a variety of investments in recent years, taking advantage of Rockwood’s superb transit access.

Rockwood CDC has embarked on a strategy to promote community and economic development in Rockwood by securing a short-term lease of the former La Cantina Restaurant following the restaurant’s closure. Since that time, Rockwood CDC has converted the restaurant kitchen into a community kitchen for growing number of emerging small businesses, and space for several nonprofit organizations. Now called “Sunrise Center”, the facility is located in the heart of Rockwood, across from a City-owned 5+ acre vacant site immediately adjoining a MAX station and primed for redevelopment. The goal of this meeting is to discuss the opportunity to purchase the building and secure this important community asset.
