Regional Engagement Officer

Shannon Smith serves as a regional engagement officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. In this role, he fosters trusted relationships with leaders in the business and banking sectors in Arizona. Through ongoing engagement and dialogue, Shannon gathers real-time information on local economic conditions, adding important context to quantitative data and analyses that the Federal Reserve uses to guide its decision making and policies. Shannon also supports the development of the Bank’s Los Angeles Branch Board of Directors and advisory councils.

Prior to joining the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Shannon worked for Maricopa County in workforce & economic development and the State of Arizona’s Office of Tourism. Shannon began his professional career in the newspaper industry, working 12 years under Gannett Inc. for both USA Today and The Arizona Republic. He has also worked in the non-profit sector as the executive director for an affiliated charity for the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, and as a business relations officer for a National Public Radio member station that is part of the Division of Public Services at Maricopa Community College.

Shannon holds a master’s degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor’s degree in history from Old Dominion University. He is also a proud veteran who was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps in 1993.
