Summary

Rapid advances in emerging technologies are reshaping both how consumer fraud and scams unfold and how institutions detect and respond to these risks. These dynamics carry particular consequences for low‑ and moderate‑income households and small businesses, where even modest losses can undermine financial stability.

On Tuesday, September 29, the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco’s EmergingTech Economic Research Network (EERN) will explore this evolving landscape, beginning with data‑driven framing from Alejandra Lopez‑Fernandini, lead supervisory policy analyst at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

Following her presentation, Laura Choi, EVP of Regional Engagement at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, will host a fireside chat on technology‑driven shifts in fraud, community vulnerabilities, and implications for financial resilience with Kate Griffin, Director of Inclusive Financial System at the Aspen Institute Financial Security Program.

This is a virtual event, open to everyone. It will be livestreamed on this page and a recording will be available after the event. We invite you to register and submit a question.
