Whether for lack of knowledge, resources, or self-control, far too many Americans are struggling with their personal finances. A recent survey by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling finds that 41 percent of U.S. adults gave themselves a grade of C, D, or F on their knowledge of personal finance and 26 percent admitted to not paying all of their bills on time (among African-Americans, this figure jumps to 51 percent); one in three adults reported no savings. Among those between the ages of 18 and 34, almost half reported that they did not have any savings.
