Jodi Halpern is Associate Professor of Bioethics and Medical Humanities in the School of Public Health/Joint Medical Program at the University of California at Berkeley. She works mainly on emotions and the imagination, with a longstanding focus on empathy. She is the author of From Detached Concern to Empathy: Humanizing Medical Practice (Oxford University Press). She recently received a Greenwall Faculty Scholar career development award to write about emotions and envisioning future well-being, and the impact of this on serious health decisions.
As a Visiting Scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Halpern enabled the Community Development department to view work through a new lens, particularly current efforts to better connect the community development and health sectors.
